We installed additional memory into a server running
Windows 2000 Advanced Server. The hardware sees the
additional memory, but the operating system does not.

How much additional memory?

Did you go over 4 gigabytes?

Yes I did. I went for 4 gigabytes to 16

Well, two things then. First, you need to enable Physical Addressing
Extensions by adding the /PAE switch (and probably the /3gb switch) to your
boot.ini file.

Second, you need to remove 8 gig of RAM because Advanced Server will only
address a max of 8 Gig even with PAE enabled.

By the way, applications that are not specifically written to use PAE can't
see more than their normal 2 gig address space anyway.

Windows advance server only supports up to 8GB of physical memory.
With 8GB your going to want to enable the PAE and 3GB switch in the boot.ini.
Got to go to datacenter to get 16GB of memory support.
