Installation Woes from MSDN DVD

Have been given a MSDN DVD containing ISO image of Windows 2000 Advanced
server to install on a development box, but it only has CD capability.

Burned the ISO image to CD to run install following these steps:

1 - Insert burned ISO CD to install Win2K Adv Server (from MSDN DVD)
2 - Prompt to select from Win2K Pro, Server or Adv Server and press enter.
3 - Select option 3 and press enter

Normal Win2K setup successfully runs through screens until first reboot

my instructions read "DO NOT Press any key to boot from CD"

Said "Press any key..." prompt never comes up, but the following message does:

COULDN'T OPEN BOOT PARTITION TO CHECK FOR A SIGNATURE

Then Prompt to "select from Win2K Pro, Server or Adv Server and press enter"
returns, and setup begins again.

1 - did I burn the ISO incorrectly?
2 - do I need to edit something in my BIOS settings?
3 - do I need to FDISK /MBR after boot from floppy?

???

K, it sounds like the install is going fine, but your PC is not booting from
the hard drive on restart. The "Press any key to boot from CD" prompt comes
from BIOS when you have changed your settings to boot from CDROM first.

Assuming that your HDD was found, formatted, etc. with no errors:
1 - doesn't seem so.
2 - set your BIOS to boot CD first, then HDD, and follow the instructions.
3 - no

Good luck!

Cameron...

thanks for your suggestion, but just to clarify, my problem is, I never get
the PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD, rather I get prompted:

[A] Windows 2000 Professional
Windows 2000 Server
[C] Windows 2000 Advanced Server

Select an Operating system to install, and press Enter:

I've checked my Boot Sequence in the BIOS, and it's set to CD > Floppy >
HDD, but it comes up every time. Have tried to run CHKDSK /r through the
recovery console, but it says it can't find AUTOFIX.EXE

Still stumped...

Apparently through all of those reboots, I never noticed the message
indicating NETBIOS DISABLED by the NetRAID controller. Went into the Express
Tools, enabled the BIOS and rebooted... guess what was there?

you guessed it...

PRESS ANY KEY TO BOOT FROM CD

problem solved.

thanks

Glad you finally got it working :-)

BTW, we usually set the boot sequence to Floppy > CD > HDD - it allows you
to fix CD problems with a floppy boot disk amongst other things, but it does
not really matter.

RAID controllers can be a pain in the butt sometimes. I could tell you a
doozy about HP's latest offerings, but that would be way off-topic. Enjoy!!
