I am installing windows xp on my win 98 computer. I am not upgrading but I
have formatted C: and want to do a clean install.

Everything is going smooth until all the files are copied and the computer
is going to do a restart. The system does go down but that's it. nothing
happens anymore.

pls help

Hi,

And if you restart with the CD still in place?

Make sure any BIOS-level antivirus detection has been disabled.

AV in BIOS is disabled
I have tried several times to restart with CD in place.

nothing happens....

Hi JB,

How was the drive partitioned and formatted? Through Windows, or did you use
a drive utility?

Hi Rick,

Partioned with Partition Magic ( C, D ).
When installing XP drive C is formatted.
I have the feeling that it is not possible to acces the drive during
"startup" . When I use a startup diskette I can read the directories from
A:, C:(empty) and D:.

Hi,

The problem is the partitioning software, did you set C as "active"?

You may find it easier to use XP's disk utilities to setup, then install PM
later.

I agree with "nutcase"on this one <G>

Use our partition manager for the clean install and then use PM after you
have it up and running.

it works...
