i've attempted to install three different versions of Vista 5384 on my
secondary (D)
drive multiple times. every time it hangs and locks up at the same point
(Expanding Files 27%...); Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor tells me only that i
don't have enough room on C:, but now i've made enough room on BOTH drives
(more than 15G) with the same result. last night i finally received an error
something like "error attempting to lay down images". i have 1G ram and an
athlon 3.0G processor. WinXP Media on my C:. can anyone tell me what the
problem might be?

Are you using a DVD Drive or Virtual Drive to install Vista? If its a DVD
try reburning the ISO at a low speed, 2x recommended, also do a CRC check on
the ISO to find out its integrity. Nero MD5 Verifier is a recommended
choice. If setup still fails, its likely a bad download. Also, try booting
into safe mode and see if setup will continue.

That's the one :-o I was trying to think of it all last night - the Nero MD5
Verifier is freakin' sweet :o) Thanks Andre for pointing this one out -
saved me from going (even more) insane!

I've used a real DVD drive, tried running off the HD extracted (UltrISO) and
now i created a Virtual Drive with Nero and mounted it from there. same thing
every time.

this has happened with the past three versions i've attempted to install,
not just 5384.

i don't understand exactly what a CRC check and Nero's MD5 Verification is
supposed to tell me, or even how to do a CRC check...

thanks for any help you can offer. how bout if i mailed you my HD and you
installed it for me and mailed it back? ;o)
