Installation problems

I have been trying to upgrade from Windows 98 to XP Honme Edition. I have
uninstalled printers and anti-virus software but when the PC reboots after
loading files but before starting the install stage, it locks up and a ghost
image of the XP logo appears on the monitor.

Has anyone else had this problem? After a three hour talk with Microsoft
software support, without any solution I was recommended to try a 'clean'
installation. If I do this will I lose ALL my files and settings, or just
certain files?

A clean install wipes the hd prior to the installation. You lose everything!

You might want to ensure you have XP drivers available first.
Personnally I would'nt upgrade an o/s

The best thing to do is to back up all your files and do a clean install.
And yes you will lose all files and settings doing a clean install unless
you burn them to a cd.
