Installation Problem

I have a PC that formerly ran on Windows 98 that I am trying to upgrade to Windows XP. Supposedly, it meets the minimum hardware configuration requirements (128M Ram, 500MHZ processor, etc.), but when I try to install Windows (but booting up on the XP disk), the computer locks up at various stages of installation (as early as when its downloading the setup files, and as late as 50% complete with the file/folder installation.) I have repeated the process at least a dozen times, and it locks up every single time, but not in exactly the same place in the process. What is the likely cause of the problem?

Did you run the hardware compatibility checker on the XP disk? Unfortunately
some hardware manufactures did not write XP drivers updates for their Win 98
hardware. Jym
