Installation Problem

When I attempt to install Outlook Business Contact Manager (Office 2007) from
the second CD I get the folloring error:
"Setup failed to install the required component Microsoft Office 2007
Primary Interop Assemblies. Microsoft Office Professional CD 2 cannot
continue."
The log file shows the following error:
"Error 1316. Setup cannot read from file D:\OFFICE\o2007pia.msi. Check your
connection to the network, or CD-ROM drive. For other potential solutions
to this problem, see SETUP.CHM"
Anyone have any suggestions how to overcome this problem?

Try copying the setup folder from the CD to your HD and try installing
from that folder.
 
For anyone else encountering this I found a solution. I copied the setup
files from the CD to my hard drive and then downloaded the zipped file
containing the "o2007pia.msi" file from the Microsoft Web site and expaned it
to the "Office" folder. I was able to install from the hard drive rather than
the CD.
 
I'm having this exact problem, and installing from a Microsoft CD! So why
does this happen (i.e. why isn't the file on the CD?) and where can we find
this file at Msft?
 
Based on info on this page:

uninstalled the existing Microsoft Office 2007 Primary Interops via Vista's
Programs and Features (formerly Add and Remove Programs) and re-ran the
Business Contact Manager installation. It worked like a charm.

Too bad MS doesn't bother to suggest when the error message initially comes
up. It would save MS money, Support time and effort, and Users a great deal
of frustration and disappointment.

From all I read on the millions of posts all over the internet, the problem
seems to show up when you have a previous installation of MSSQL Server and
the "fix" is to erase that copy. I tried uninstalling it repeatedly from the
"add/remove programs" control panel with no luck.

That is because uninstalling it through the control panel doesn't get rid of
everything and, for some reason I can't comprehend, Microsoft (1) knows this,
(2) has released Windows Installer Cleanup to make up for the deficiency, and
(3) hasn't been smart enough to pre-install the cleanup features into the
control panel... but more on how pathetic this company is later.

For now, what I did was I downloaded the Cleanup utility from the link
above, Installed it, then opened it (I only found it on the "all programs"
sub-menu in the start menu). Once you have it open, highlight these
applications:

Microsoft SQL Server native client

Microsoft SQL Server Setup Support files

Microsoft SQL Server VSS writer



Then click remove. Then restart windows and try to install Disc 2 again.



NOTE: You MIGHT need to also use cleanup to get rid of MSXML 6 (that's not
the complete name but Windows won't cooperate with me right now so I'm having
trouble getting it - isn't Microsoft great? It's no surprise that Bill Gates
is one of the richest men on earth! NOT!) AH, there it goes! It is called
"MSXML 6.0 Parser"... I *think* that installs along with SQL server and needs
to be removed by cleanup as well (that's what I did and it worked) but I'm
not certain.



HOPEFULLY Windows Installer Cleanup will fix the problem for everyone...
somehow I doubt it since this problem has existed for almost 2 years and is
all over the internet. GOOD LUCK!
 
Kudos to AZ_man. I had the same problem and tried all the suggested solutions
including a reinstall of Office. Uninstalling the Interop solves the problem
immediately. My Office version is Standard. Perhaps the Interop with a
version that does not support BCM doesn't have the files necessary and
interferes with the installation.
