Why is it that my computer can only run Windows 98 and
not any higher versions. It freezes during installation.

The Computer Specs are all well above what it says is
required on the box. My friend said that he has the same
problem with his. Can a hard drive not be compatable with
an operating system??

To do a clean install, either boot the Windows 2000 install CD-Rom or setup
disks. The set of four install disks can be created from your Windows 2000
CD-Rom; change to the \bootdisk directory on the CD-Rom and execute
makeboot.exe (from dos) or makebt32.exe (from 32 bit) and follow the
prompts.

When you get to the point, delete the existing NTFS and or other partitions
found. After you delete the partition(s) abort the install, then again
restart the pc booting the CD-Rom or setup disks to avoid unexpected drive
letter assignments with your new install.

Check your hardware here.

Thanks for that.

I read something about that earlier. I tried doing it
with the CD-rom install and the computer froze at the
configuring intial settings screen. Does this mean I
should try it using the 4 boot disks?

Thanks again

Check the pc or mb manufacturer's web site for an updated bios.

Check the hardware manufacturer's web site for Windows 2000 drivers for your
devices.
