On my computer at work, it first came with windows xp. Then it was down
graded to windows 2000 to run a cerain software. Now I am not using the
software, and have purchases Office 2007, and I need Windows XP back. So, I
found the CD that came with my computer (hoping it would solve my problems),
and I loaded it. But it loaded seperatly from Windows 2000 not upgrading it.
So, when I start up I now have an option on which one I want to use, which
is a problem. I have the product code for XP. How do I take off the Extra
operating system, and upgrade my current one. Please help me.

If this is a work computer shouldn't the IT person for the company be
setting it up?

Here is a link for how to do a clean install of XP:

I did that & it didn't work. How do I totally erase the computer and start
from scratch. Delete everything on the C drive.

Melissa - other than being inconvenient you should have been able to select
XP at the menu option screen. The XP boot manger "boot.ini" can be edited
to remove the Win 2000 option or to boot into XP without delay, however the
2000 installation would still be on the unit.

When you installed XP, you did not install it as an upgrade - during setup
you were asked whether to install XP in the current folder C:|Windows (or
C:\wnnt) which would have been an upgrade - or in another folder or
partition which evidently you selected.

You did what? What didn't work? How didn't it work? Error messages? Be
specific, we are not mind readers. Did you follow the steps in the clean
install link? You have to delete all the partitions and create a new one
for XP.
