Have W2k at SP2 right now with zero (0) critical updates installed (system
crashed and am rebuilding it).

I am planning to install SP3 but there are also about 30 Critical updates
available at windowsupdate.microsoft.com which came out at varying times.

What is the correct order to install service packs and the critical
updates -- SP3 first then the updates?

TIA

Why not just go to "Windows Update" and it will determine what updates
you need and the order to install them in. You'll get SP4 that way
too.

Install SP3 (or SP4) first and then check for updates. Many of the
updates are included in the service packs. Some people will recommend
SP4, while others will warn that it has cause problems for many people.
Given that you're starting over anyway, I'd give SP4 a try. Be sure to
select the backup option in cause it doesn't work for you.
