My computer (Dell 8300) has two hard drives: C and D

XP is the OS for Drive C: Will I create problems for XP if I install VISTA
on Drive D?

Thank you.

It is inadvisable to install Vista beta on any production or primary home
computer (per MS on the Vista GetReady pages).

Do a complete backup of your XP system first. Vista x86 may be installed
from the XP desktop or you may boot with the DVD. I recommend the first.
Make sure that you have the harddisk controller drivers on hand if your
system does not have them in firmware.

What would happen should one remove disk C: prior to install of Vista?

Then whack in disk C: after using Vista for a few hours?

Would Vista be pleasant to the new disk and XP?

(I'm thinking of removing the Vista disk before re-installing XP Pro to
an empty platter. Running XP Pro to stable updates then introducing the
Vista platter to see what happens.)

You would not have a boot options menu if that is what you are asking. You
would have to swap disks in order to boot into the system of your choice.
You could just as easily leave the disks in the machine and use the BIOS
settings to do the swap.

I had no trouble at all, with the same
circumstances. Vista will set itself up as the
primary system, so you will have to manually
select XP at login. This can be fixed most easily
by getting a copy of VistaBoot Pro, but if you are
a computer whiz you can do it from within.
