My DELL Dimension 8200 computer came with Windows XP Home
Edition. Recently I downloaded and installed Service Pack
1 and recommended critical security updates. After this I
noted that I have now 24 "hidden" subdirectories in the
WINDOWS folder, all but one named $NtUninstall..., the one
exception is a folder $xpsp1hfm$. I presume they are to
reverse Service Pack 1 installation in case of problems.
Can I delete these and when? Everything works fine so
far.

If you wish to safely remove the "uninstall files" for the
Hotfixes (i.e. $NtUninstallQxxxxxx$ files shown in Windows Explorer)
and cleanup your Add/Remove Programs list, visit MS-MVP Doug Knox's
excellent website for instructions.

Note: Doug's program only removes the uninstall files and Hotfix entries
in the Add/Remove Programs listing. It does not remove the
actual updates.
