I recently purchased a new computer for my daughter with
Office XP standard.
I just found out that a course she has requires
Powerpoint. I have Office 2000 Professional from her
older computer, which is no longer used. Can I install
that Powerpoint on her new one?

Yes is the easy answer. A computer can have multiple versions of Office
installed. But because each version of Office installs many of its own
components they need to be installed from oldest to newest. This applies to
even if you are not using all of the applications (ie. PPT 2000, but not PPT
XP).

So you will need to uninstall Office XP. Install Office 2000, using custom
install option to only install PPT. Then install Office XP, using custom
install to keep previous version of PPT (even though the Standard version
does not have PPT it will default to overwriting all Office 2000 settings
and applications). Done.

Are you sure it's XP Standard and not Small Business Edition? Standard should
include PPT.

What Troy said. But a caution: did the new computer come with an install CD
for Office? If not, you may be stuck. You don't want to install an older
version of PPT into a newer version of Office.
