If I install AOL (ugh) on my girlfriends Windows XP PC where she is
the administrator, will it carry on down to her childrens accounts for
use? Or can a shortcut be placed to it?

OR Must I install it in each of her 3 kids accounts in XP?

That is why I like just one account (in total) for people with kids or
2 accounts (regardless of # of kids) at max.

Thanks for info.

Yes, it more than likely will. But PLEASE use AOL 6.0 or
7.0 NOT 8.0 or 9.0. I have tested this out. Also, don't
try to "upgrade" to a newer version of AOL at all either
EVER!!!. If you listen to me you will be able to use AOL
with XP and not have ANY problems!

As soon as you start to use AOL 9.0 or try to upgrade from
6.0/7.0 you can crash Windows.

To install AOL 6.0 hold the "Shift" key on your keyboard
(to keep the AOL 9.0 program from auto-running) and then
insert the AOL 9.0 CD. (If the AOL installation of 9.0
starts click "Cancel.") Go into My Computer after the AOL
CD is in the CD-ROM drive and double-click yourself into
the AOL CD by clicking on the CD-ROM drive icon or right-
click the CD-ROM drive icon and click "Explore." If you
navigate in the folders there you will find the AOL 6.0
file. Click it and install AOL 6.0. I have tested AOL 6.0
software with Windows XP Service Pack 2 Beta Build 2149
and it works great. I am not going to follow-up on this so
trust me now- lol.

Very true Curt. I tried an upgrade on my girlfriends machine to 9 and
it was a disaster even on Win ME. It tried to autorun every time the
computer started. I was not sure how to stop that. Did not see
anything in the startup folder and looked at a few reg keys but
perhaps not long enough.
I fell back on a previous version.

Thanks. Good advice to uninstall and reinstall, etc.

So are you saying it needs to be installed in each users account on
XP? Or perhaps an install on Admin account will carry over to other
accounts? But what if they are admin too?

Thanks, Peter
