hard drive fried on a w2k server so I have installed a new drive and
gone ahead and reinstalklked w2k ... but when I get to the
installation key I enter the 25 character code as per the jewel case
and I am told the key is invalid! Its certainly OK cos I used it
before for the original installation back in 2001 or whenever!

I've checked and rechecked that I';m entering the characxters correctly
but still no joy.

are the installation keys time stamped or something?

I'm pretty piffed oss...

Installation keys are linked to the type of Windows 2000
product. For example, the key that is supplied with an OEM
cdrom will be invalid when used on a retail version. The same
circumstances might apply between an academic version and a
retail version. And it is easy to do a mismatch if there are
are several versions of Windows 2000 laying around.

No not time bombed. Have someone else try it. Another pair of eyes may be
the fix.
