I am getting the following error when trying to install Vista. I have 17+
Gigs available on my drive.

"Windows Setup cannot locate a valid hard drive to store temporary
installation files. To install Windows, create more free space on the hard
drive or add a new hard drive."

Any help would be appreciated.

R U trying to install as a dual boot? R U tring to install directly from the
DVD? Been there, done that (twice). See if you can "dedicate" or format a
partition strickly for Vista. Be generous - size the partition => 40 GB.
I've got 29GB and squeaked by. If you wish to revert back to XP, login to XP
and do the install there. Choose "custom" install, and direct the install to
point to your newly partitioned Vista drive. The install "should" work from
there - just give it time, and don't exit any screens unless you are
absolutely sure the install is locked up. Got mine up last night (finally),
after about an hour.

This is on a dedicated Drive. i am only running Vista Beta 2 and have all of
my other drives out of the machine. It is a 40 Gig drive. I am using the
DVD install as an upgrade. The entire drive is partitioned for Vista.

This is on a dedicated 40 gig drive wholly partitioned for vista as one
partition. i am upgrading from Vista Beta 2 64 bit.

I get this same error message...and this is after I got an earlier error
message that I didn't have enough room for an upgrade. So I eliminated about
15 data-hog programs and tried again. Let's see...am I going to install a new
hard drive, because the Vista RC1 installation program says so, or am I
really starting to believe this mess is fatally bugged...and will keep
finding errors, no matter how many roadblocks (12 so far) I've managed to
navigate through...
