Installation History for Windows Update

Am using Win98SE with IE6.0 and from time to time run the Windows Update
manually to get the Critical Updates ie those intended to enhance
security issues with IE.

Have recently removed all those Updates, that are possible to remove, in
an effort to solve an emerging problem and am happy to say that it
appears that this seems to have helped.

On the Windows Update website you can view your update Installation
History. Unfortunately it only shows what you have installed and not
what you have un-installed. Sadly, therefore, my Installation History
is now out-of-date.

Is there a way to update the Windows Update Installation History record?
I'm assuming that this record is stored somewhere on my own computer,
perhaps a cookie, rather than on the Microsoft server. TIA

No.

What was "the emerging problem", Richard?

Slow...oh so very slow!

Thanks again.

Perhaps there is. The Windows Update history seems to be stored in a file
named \Program Files\WindowsUpdate\V4\iuhist.xml. Try making a backup copy
of that file, editing it, and then going to Windows Update to see what it
has to say. The XML syntax is complex and clumsy to manipulate. To
delete an antry, you'll want to remove everything from an <itemStatus> tag
through the following </itemStatus> tag.
