I have installed Vista 4 times now (2 times from the network and 2 times from
CD) but everytime when it get to "Completing installation", it reboots and
then the screen goes blank. I left it that way for an hour or so and then
tried to reboot. Not it says that "an error was encountered or it was
shutdown.... so i can restart my installation"

Can anybody please help??

Also what hardware? Did you run the upgrade advisor?

How about if you try booting into safe mode? I could be a bad display
that's causing the screen to go blank.

I had the same. Try disabling the onboard sound and usb while installing. You
can enable them after the installation has finished. I managed this way to
complete the installation but it didn't solve all my problems though.

Did you disable it through the system utility? Can you please tellme the steps?

To answer other questions:
1. It was a clean install (i formatted the drive)
2. I can't open it even in safe mode coz it says installation cannot
continue in safe mode
3. I am installing 5600 RC1 build

Your help is appreciated!

I looked at my system utilities and i don't have any option to disable sound
- the only one is see is the legacy usb support and i disabled it - tried to
do a clean install again and doesn't work.

You have to disable them in the Bios.

I don't see an option for sound in bios. My version of BIOS is 1.9. My
machine is a Toshiba Satellite. Can you please tell me how i can disable the
sound.

I'm having this problem as well. I'm doing a clean install on a 2nd hd for
duel boot. Only once have I been able to reboot once to continue install but
after the 2nd reboot, it just has a black screen. I've tried 4 different
times and even redownloaded the ISO file. I am using 5600 rc1 build from the
microsoft website.

any help or ideas would be much appreceated!!!!

as I said disable onboard sound and usb in the bios befor installing and
reenable it after the installation has finished completely.

Does your system have onboard sound? If not then only disable the USB in the
Bios. If you do have onboard sound there has to be an option in the bios to
disable it.

in that case, i disabled the "usb support" and re-installed it and its still
the same issue.

Maybe load Vista hardwaredrivers (mainboard drivers or others) for your
system while installing.
