I'm trying to upgrade Win98 to WinXP Pro. The machine is
a Compaq ~4-5 years old.

During the inital attempt of installing (upgrade) of
WinXP, shortly after beginning, the following fatal error
message appeared "Setup Cannot Continue: Contact
Microsoft Technical Support (Error: 535FF58H). The only
option was to exit the installation.

The second attempt resulted in the same error message;
however, the error code was (Error: 546FF58H).

How can I find out what the error codes indicate ? Or,
can anyone provide the information required to get past
the error(s) to complete the upgrade ?

Thanks in advance !!

Also, physically disconnect all your peripheral hardware devices,
especially USB devices (not including your mouse, keyboard or
monitor). Uninstall any antivirus program, too!
