I have windows xp home edition (upgraded from 98)and when I go to windows
updates I am told that I need to install .Net Framework 1.1 service pack 1.
Each time I try it fails to install. I have already installed service pack 2,
so do I still need it? If so, how can I get it to install?

I do also, and I did check, and it didn't tell me anything comprehensible
(I'm just thrown into the debugger during installation).

Check the msi log that is created. Or try downloading the patch and running
it on your own - and give it explicit logging parameters

On advice from MS, I uninstalled my framework (installed with the SDK), and
reinstalled without the SDK just using the standard redistributable version
of the framework 1.1.

This did fix my problem and allow me to apply the update.

I suppose now I can reinstall the SDK.
