I have been battling with my pc for months now, and have
finally got round to reinstalling windows fresh on a
spare hard drive ( maxtor 60gb) that i had sitting
somewhere.
I started installation did a QUICK format, then it
started installing windows and said installing
hardwarre, time left 40 mins or so

I went out for a while, came back to errors - could not
install hardware for your battery, contact vendor if
problem continues, clicked ok, then te same for batter
and hard drive and cdrom again a couple of times... it
carried on, then got to a different error screen, saying
"cannot install this hardware"
System
Data error ( Cyclic redundency check)

I then aborted installation as i could tell it would not
be good.

what advice would you give.

Any advice appreciated

For an array of unrelated errors, the first thing I'd look at is the ram.
