I Windows File Error Code 80070017. Amybody know what this Means ?
It seems to mean disk error. That said, it appears to be related only to
Vista install - for example, I've got two DVDs, different brands burned on
different systems that generate 80070017 but verify on every OS, even Vista
(once installed). Running additional tests, It almost looks like Vista
install turns Error Correction off, and an 80070017 is generated by a single
C2 error. Your best bet is to reburn on a different drive, PC and/or brand of
media, and/or slow the burning (e.g., 2x) and/or install-time reading down
(e.g., PIO mode). C2 errors are caused by dirt, scratches, media defects, and
even sometimes by "burn-proof" schemes. They're generally not random, so
simply retrying without changing anything probably won't work. (They're
generally not fatal either, which is why Vista itself, once installed,
considers them fine.)
