I'm trying to install on an Asus K8V-MX system and am getting this error
during the file copy stage, usually around 10-20%, although one time it got
as far as 80% before failing.

The system is built on an Asus K8V-MX system board with a pair of Western
Digital SATA drives. I've tried them both in a RAID stripe set as well as
individual drives. The DVD disk is fine as it installed onto another system
with an IDE drive without problems.

The system is fine since I can install WinXP from the unatteded DVD I
created without problems.

This seems to be a common error. I am getting it also. Someone out there must
know what the problem is. I used Nero to mount the ISO on dvd and tried to
install on an empty, but formatted (NTSF) partition on my main harddrive (I
have another internal and an external, all 160gb HD. I am running an AMD chip
2200+. I also made the drive a primary drive. I then tried to install over
Windows XP (SP2) and got the very same error message. The following is what I
found after reading the entire log file (which was still on the new
partition) after trying to install (first install on the formatted blank
partition:

Sorry! Hope that can be read. It almost seems like there is a problem with
either the file "install.wim" that is on the installation disk, or it is
trying to copy files to a non-existant folder that is supposed to be already
set up earlier (this folder was not there, by the way even though the log
file was (under the Panther folder),

\$WINDOWS.~LS\Sources\ea522256-cdb8-4dbf-973f-d48cdf579ff9\Install.wim,
which would be on my machine.

The question is, is the file corrupt from the downloaded ISO, or is it not
setting up this folder on my partition for some reason that I cannot
understand? I am bald enough already but am pulling my hair out on this one.
Cannot seem to find an answer anywhere through Microsoft! I have not tried to
mount the ISO on another partition and run the setup from there but will try
that. Other than that, I am at a total loss here. Need some intelligent
quidance here. I am not an IT but I know enough about computers that I could
be, but even so, this one has me baffled!!!???

Thanks

zhivago47:)

I kept getting the same error. Install using Daemon Tools and it should be
OK.

I tried everything including...burning the image, extract the iso to another
folder and running it from there, burning at a lower speed 2x, used daemon
tools and the same error every single time...so I downloaded the file
again...and it installed fine...I think this error indicates either the file
was burned too high or the download itself is bad

You guys are not going to believe this. I finally got Vista to install,
heres what happened and how I did it:

1. I pasted the download link into FIREFOX of all things. that is the only
way I could get a good download.

2. Burned the ISO to DVD using Roxio DVD builder @ 2X speed.

3. Copied all the install files to the hard drive in a folder labeled "Vista
Install" and ran the installation from there. It took 2 1/2 HOURS to install.

When Vista started for the first time, all I got was a black screen, working
mouse, and the build number noted in the lower right corner. NO graphics at
all and nothing works. I had to roll back the installation and am now back
to XP.

Talk about disapointment! Any thoughts? My machine is a 1.4 Gig celeron
with a GIG of RAM

Thanks for all the tips. I tried mounting it on a virtual drive and ran it
from that but still got the same message. I guess that I have a bad or
corrupt download so it appears that I am just going to have to redownload the
thing. Sure hate to have to do that but no other choice I guess. If it
doesn't work this next time then I am going to give up on it. Too bad as I
would like to try it out but don't have five hours or more to waste on this
thing, expecially since it is a beta........oh well. Again thanks and I will
let you know the results of the new download.....that is if I can get on
again! :(

This link will take you directly to the download. If you get the "too busy"
page, do it again with Firefox and it will go right to the download. Also
Firefox has a GREAT download manager.
