After downloading, install goes to "computing space
requirements" then install freezes. How do I install?

Interesting--you might try clearing out temporary and temporary Internet
files.

What drives do you have, and what free space?

Norton System Works keeps Registry and temp internet
files cleared. I've cleared others, including cookies. I
use a Maxtor 80 GB drive with roughly 70% unused. Running
XP Home Edition, 1400 Ghz AMD processor, 512 MB DDR
memory. Of interest, maybe, I can't install Spyware
Blaster either. It gets part way and locks the computer.
Ad-Aware SE and Spybot Search and Destroy running fine.

I've since done another Microsoft Antispyware upgrade and had a further
thought. As I recall, after the "space calc" phase, the next thing that
happens is the switch to the full screen installer phase--which I take to be
initiation of the .MSI file contained in the original distribution archive.

So--you may have an issue with the Windows Installer, which would be a
commonality (maybe) between the two installs you are having trouble with.

The above link is to the current version of the Windows Installer. You
might try downloading and installing this package--if you are patched to
date, this should already be installed, but perhaps there was some problem
with the installation. Do this as Owner or Administrator on your machine.

Let's try that first and see if it does the job--let me know--other thoughts
are whether the Installer service is able to start or not--i.e. not set to
disabled.

I downloaded and install the MS Installer. No change in
the problem. Spyware gets to "computing space
requirement" and locks up. The install stops responding.

PROBLEM SOLVED. File System32\MSCOMCTL.OCX was
contaminated. Deleted and install new one and both
programs load and run normally.
No idea what damaged that file.
Thanks to all.

Thanks for letting us know. I suppose an SFC /scannow would have cured
that--glad you figured it out!
