I installed win 2000 on my computer and had a problem
during install so had to restart. Now I have two versions
on my computer, one working and one non. The only problem
is when I boot up it asks me which one and is annoying.
How can I get rid of one? ALso, I registered for a
microsoft inet account and started receiving 40 emails a
day with updates and crap. there is no unsubscribe
instructions. I cancelled the inet account but still get
them. What can I do?? They all appear to come from
microsoft.

First Control Panel|System|Advanced|Startup and Recovery, choose the correct
System Startup option as default, then you'll need to delete the options you
want removed from the boot.ini, it's a system, hidden file in the root of
the system partition. So you'll need to; Explorer|Tools|Folder Options|View,
then radio button for "Show hidden files and folders", then uncheck the box
for "Hide protected operating system files" to locate the files in the
system partition. You should end up with something like this (below). The
timeout value is not functional when there is only one startup choice.

[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINNT="Microsoft Windows 2000
Professional" /fastdetect

Those messages are NOT from MS they are various viruses and worms, your
email address has been harvested and is now on their lists (because of the
registered Microsoft inet account). Not much you can do now, sorry and Good
luck.
