Thanks to all who replied to my earlier posting on the
subject

I'm considering getting an Acer notebook with XP Home
preinstalled and Recovery Discs. I already have the full
unused version of XP Pro. I need networking capability (I
dont know if I get it with XP Home: I move from office to
office and connecting to their networks). My concern is
loading XP Pro and loosing all the predefined settings
for the Acer machine. Thanks in anticipation!

You won't lose anything. It will install as an upgrade. If you ever need
to do a recovery, you can use the recovery disks, then install XP Pro again.
This way you will have all the drivers you need.

Yes you will need Pro - Home cannot join a domain.

Not QUITE true - it can, but it cannot use the domain authentication
functions and thus may not have access to all the network resources.
