I have xp pro installed on a 40G drive only one
partition. I want to start clean, and do a full new
install. When it asks you to choose a partition, I try to
DELETE the one that exists but Install will not allow it.
Says setup files are there so it can't delete it. Must I
manually format my drive first? I tried booting from disk
and same outcome. Help?
Thanks-

Thanks, it worked

1) You say you 'tried booting from the XP install CD and got the same
outcome". I suggest you did not "boot" using the XP CD, but simply put the
CD in the drive while in Windows, and tried to install XP. As long as you
do this, you will be unable to delete the "C:" partition.

first boot device to be the CD drive you use to install from. Don't forget
to save your new BIOS settings.
3) Next, put the XP install CD in the drive, and turn the machine off, then
back on (just like you used to do with a Windows startup floppy, only this
time, you will be using a CD instead.)
4) Immediately after the POST is displayed (right after the HD detection is
done), a message will be displayed at the bottom of your screen, saying
"Press any key to boot from ATAPI CD:" (or something like it). When you see
this message, IMMEDIATELY press a key, such as <Space> or
