Hi,

I am trying to install Windows XP on my machine running Windows 2000. I
wanted the computer to boot from CD ROM as I wanted to install it this way
so I could wipe the current partition. But I have changed the settings so
that
CDROM is the first boot device but it still loads windows without booting
from the CDROM, any ideas?

Thanks for your help

Hello

Make sure that you have a bootable cdrom Disk also
re-check your boot sequence

Like Alvin said, re-check the boot sequence in your BIOS, and if the CDROM
is indeed the first boot device, then when you reboot with the Windows XP CD
in the drive, you should see a temporary message asking if you want to boot
from the CD. This message only lasts about 5-10 seconds, and if you miss it,
the computer will boot off the hard drive instead. That may be what happened
to you. Also, if you have more than one CDROM in your system, it may be that
only one of the drives is bootable, so try each one.

The page i used was advanced bios features and the description at the bottom
of the page says virus protection, boot sequence. There are no other pages
with anything like this. The CDROM is listed before the hard drive but it
stills boots the hard drive first, there is no message asking me to boot
from the CDROM. Also i only have one CDROM

Well, I don't necessarily know what your BIOS setup pages look like, but
there is some reason why your computer is not looking at the CDROM prior to
the hard drive. If there is a way to remove the hard drive from the boot
device list, try that. Perhaps you could choose the CDROM as first choice,
then the floppy, then whatever is the other choice, (other than hard drive).
Once you get it to boot off the CDROM, and you install Windows XP, then you
can change the boot sequence back to what it is now. There has to be a
simple reason that you are not booting off the CDROM--you just have to find
it.
