hello all, I am putting w98 on a older computer I am having problems.
It's a Amd1700+, 256mb-2100 ram. The drive is a 10gig Maxtor and I
don't know whats on it. I tried installing w98 se. and got a
unrecoverable error-insufficient memory. Ok fine- I tried to fdisk and
start over deleting the primary partition and every other option. When
I did this I only got part of the screen stating current fixed disk
drive 1. The drive specs were not listed and the esc key did not take me
back to the main screen . Any ideas?? Thanks all

Remove the partitions again.Then shutdown.
Remake the partition/s
Then shutdown.
format the drive.
Shutdown.
Install windows.
If you need a better boot disk,

http://www.netpathway.com/~kramer/reinstall.html
http://www.bootdisk.com
Or if you have a CDR/W drive available this is a bootable boot disk
ISO including Aefdisk
http://www.geocities.com/sheppola/bootd.zip
that can wipe any and all partitions using it's
\delall
command so you can then use the normal fdisk which on this ISO is the
fixed ME version for win98 etc.
This assumes that the boot order on the older system can be set to
boot Cdrom 1st.
If a DDO(Dynamic Disk Overlay) program was used on the old drive then
that software should be used to remove that software.
HTH :)

Thanks for the replies, I can't delete or make new partitions. I am not
sure of DDO . I will look into the ram also.
