Hi Guys & Galls
I’m at my wits end on trying to install Win2K Pro. on my Abit NF7S v2 mobo,
with 2 Gigs of DDR SDRAM, running an AMD 1.3 Athlon Processor, onto a new,
200 gig HD.
When I do a makeboot and try to start from the setup disk, I get the
infamous:
“ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded the error code is 7â€
When I try to get it going from the CD, i386 dir., using Winnt, I get the
same, but the error code is “4.â€
The first thing I tried was to clear the BIOS and start again. But no luck.
I took the memory down from dual to single, reduced its size to 1 Gig.,
swapped it into each slot; changed the mem settings to way high: 8,5,5,5,5;
killied just about everthing in the BIOS, except Video(AGP), ACPI, CPU, and
Drives -- no USB, no SATA, etc.
I’ve pulled the battery, the AC power, again cleared the BIOS. (many times)
Nothing seems to work.
Running MS memory tests shows my memory to be, “good.â€
The only thing I can think of that I haven’t tried is to reflash the
BIOS—but I’d think clearing it & pulling the battery would set it back to OEM
specs. (Maybe not?)
I made three new sets of starup disks, but no go.
Looked at the Win2K CD, but it looks ok and it and its backups have been
used many times to install the OS to slower computers, with less memory.
The strange thing: the system loads VISTA.
Any ideas?
I need the W2K and save VISTA for another machine.
