I have been using the SiliconImage 3114 controlled SATA ports on my DFI Lanparty MB with RAID1 but I had a drive fail and I plugged the remaining drive into the other SATA ports which are NVIDIA controlled and have been using the single working drive until now.
I've bought 3 new WD 500gb SATA drives with the intention of using one inside a caddie as an external drive and the other 2 in RAID1 to replace the original 160gb drives. If I use the NVIDIA ports it should run at 3.0gbs rather than 1.5gbs with the Silicon Image ports.
Do I just install NVIDIA Mediashield, then add the new drives? I don't know exactly what I need to do and in what order. I've also got Acronis True Image 11 with the idea I could clone my working drive to the new external drive, then add the new 2 x internal 500gb drives, clone back to one of those and then mirror them. Sounds simple but would it work?
I don't want to try and end up with an unsuccessful nightmare.
