Won't install to laptop...get message the tfp.exe in
system32 is running and need to close all programs to
continue....However there is no other programs running at
all...any suggestions....

If tftp.exe is running without your knowledge then there's a good chance
your pc is infected with one or more virus.

I did a virus check and found a backdoor.sdbot and was
able to delete the infected file with Symantec....however
when I tried to install SP4 again, the tftp.exe was still
being used....is there a way to disable the file???

You can stop the process through Task Manager

Dave....tftp.exe does not show in the task manager...I
downloaded AVG virus software that found a couple of more
trojans and it took care of the viruses o.k....however
after two complete scans with nothing being found on the
system I still get the tftp.exe message asking for me to
close programs that are not open....I give up....unless
you have another solution...Thanks for help to date...
Is svchost.exe a process used by windows?

Why not temporarily move the file (tftp.exe) from
%windir%\system32
directory. Restart for effect.

Svchost.exe is a generic host process name for services that are run from
dynamic-link libraries (DLLs). The Svchost.exe file is located in the
%SystemRoot%\System32 folder. At startup, Svchost.exe checks the services
portion of the registry to construct a list of services that it needs to
load. There can be multiple instances of Svchost.exe running at the same
time. Each Svchost.exe session can contain a grouping of services, so that
separate services can be run depending on how and where Svchost.exe is
started.
