Installing 32bit edition.

Everything goes fine through the install and update processes.

Windows reboots. Go through screen that says "Getting ready to start
Windows for the first time"

Installation screen comes back and is on last section "Completing
installation"

Sits there for a while... then... screen goes black. Computer is still on.
Hangs there indefinitely.

After holding power button to shut down and reboot, Vista boots to a screen
that tells me that installation was unsucessful and I should run the
installation again.

Same thing continues to happen for all eternity...

Running a "Repair Computer" from Install disc finds no errors.

Any chance you have a nVidia based video card? A number of people, including
myself, are having the same or similar problems. FX 5200, 5500, 7900 GPUs
and maybe others, although many people are having no problems. I put in an
old, old nVidia MX400 and was able to complete installation & get the proper
drivers. But the system still hangs with my nVidia FX5500 installed.
Haven't heard of any fix or if MS even considers it a problem.

One more thing. The screen that comes up as your install goes black asks for
the user name. Type your name in, hit enter and the install should finish.
You probably will still have a black screen but at least you can then boot
into Safe Mode. Don't know what good that does but it's something.

Same thing here ...video card is Intel 950 on a toshiba notebook....Beta 2 is
working fine but I can't install RC1

About the same problem here!

I did both a clean instal and an overwrite of XP with build 5600.16 both
with the same problem.
instalation is hangin in "completing installation" (no percentage
indication) and
and restarts my PC. When it restarts, the old fashion blue screen appears
for a split second and restarts again. I believe it is an memory error, but
the blue disappears to fast to read it.

I tried a lot , everything at standard clockspeeds and stripped my Pc to the
absolute minimum (PS, MB, CPU intel 2.4c, 40 gig IDE HDD, AGP X1600pro,
1024MB PC3200 memory, DVD-RW) but nothing works.

I'm out of suggestions, anyone else?

Thanks in advance and regards,
Wouter
