Hello

Somehow my Internet Explorer has become corrupted and no longer
connects to the internet. I have no problem running Firefox so I know
my connection is working.

I want to uninstall and then reinstall IE but I cannot seem to achieve
that. I cannot find IE amongst my programs in Add/Remove programs or
in Advanced Uninstaller, to enable me to remove it.

I have read various help sheets, including from MS but still cannot
figure out how to either uninstall it or roll it back to the original
version that came with the operating system, to allow me then to
update it with a fresh copy.

Is it possible to use "brute force" and just delete the Internet
Explore folder or will that create a "disaster" ?

I have an Acer Veriton 3200 Celeron desktop computer 950 MHz with 384
MB RAM, 10 GB free HDD space, run Windows 2000 SP4 fully up-to-date
(at least up to the end of March when this problem occurred) Windows
Update wise. I have a 512 kbps DSL internet connection. I use Firefox
firewall and Vet anti-virus (a CA product, www.vet.com.au) in case
that is relevant

Any help much appreciated.

Before doing that you should check your computer for spyware.
The symptom you are describing could be caused by that
and uninstalling IE would do nothing to remove it but could
make its symptoms worse by breaking more of its hooks.

run Windows 2000 SP4 fully up-to-date

FYI That OS has an IE Repair tool in it.

Run... (e.g. press Win-R and enter:)

rundll32 setupwbv.dll,IE6Maintenance

(A successful repair requires a reboot, so be prepared for that
by closing all apps first.)

Hello Robert

Thank you for your response.

I was fairly confident I had no spyware as I run a number of
applications to catch it but re-ran it all anyway with no problems
appearing.

However I did not know of the IE Repair tool. Ran it using your
instructions, rebooted and IE is working again :-)

May I be the first to nominate you for a Knighthood Sire ! Or
alternately, please ask your friends to buy you a block of apartments
of your choosing. You are an absolute Gem.

Thanks very much
