Once again I've heard and read so many different things so wanted to
get some feedback from those who do this stuff for fun and see how it
works for you. I've got just the basic setup and I'm dual booting with
98SE. It is hidden from XP Pro. I have 3 hard drives but want to try
and put the programs on another partition. I back up the main OS with
Ghost but if I have to put the image back then I have to reinstall all
the programs anyway. So is there some other benfit to having the
programs not with the OS. I'm going to put the Page, Temp and some
other things on different partitons as well as to keep the defrag down
as much as possible and keep the OS drive not so cluttered.. Any input
would be great.

Thanks

I am not a fan of partitioning, I have several disks in removable trays with
different operating systems, each with just a single partition. I like you
image my C drive occasionally with Drive Image and keep the image and a
backup of my data files on D. I just don't relish having to reload all
those programs again and also feel that in the event of a failure that you
are more likely to loose a drive than just a partition on it. But that's
just the way I happen to like doing it.

I can not even begin to tell you how many times I have seen one partition
out of 2, or 4 etc. become totally corrupted. And, it is usually the system
partition.

That really doesn't matter in my mind because if I lose the system partition
and had to restore it from an image of just the os I would still have to
reload all my programs. My only point is that I don't believe in creating
partitions and then installing the os on one and programs on another be it
another partition or another drive. Using the other drive or partition for
data is fine but once again it still needs to be backed up. I just leave it
all on one disk with an image and data backup on another. But that's just
my opinion.
