Install problem of IE due to more recent version on different HD

Hi

Without going into the gory details, I need to install IE on the second hard
disk of my computer (in order to install a program that needs it)

I have no intention of surfing with this installation

Anyway, I downloaded what I thought must be the latest version of IE as the
link was given to me today by a member of the group but IE will not install
on the second HD because a more recent version is already installed.

I am surprised, but I assume that it is making reference to IE on my other
hard drive. Am I right? Does IE not install on a 2nd HD if it is already
present on the 1st one.

Also, I don't see how IE on the 1st HD is more recent than the one I
downloaded tonite but when I checked, it seems to be so.

HD 1 has version 6.0.2900.2180
The downloaded version is 6.0.2800.1106

How can this be as I installed Windows XP ages ago (did add SP2 though)?

Is this due to automatic updates?

Anyway, I need a way to install IE on the 2nd HD inspite of it being present
on the 1st one.

Any help appreciated.

You have WinXP SP2 and you downloaded IE 6 SP1, an earlier version. Your IE
version is specific to WinXP SP2.

And no, you can't install to copies of IE. I can't conceive of a program
needing IE to be on the same drive, but if it really does you will have to
install it on the same drive Windows is installed on.

I am not sure if you understood me.

I don't want to install IE twice to the same hard drive but to have it on
both hard drives (although I will only surf with the first HD)

I have now tried to install it using Power IE but I came across another
problem.

Power IE needs the CD with Windows SP2 and the file IExplorer.exe.

My Windows Service Pack XP (bought with a mag) seems only to have the
updates and not a full version of IE on it (I've looked everywhere on it)

Power IE won't work using IE6setup.exe

Any idea where I can download the file IExplorer.exe.

The only reason for all of this is that I have bought a printer/scanner and
installation fails appartently cos IE isn't present (error 0x8004075)

You can't install IE twice on the same operating system (Windows install)
whether on a different hard drive or not. If it's a dual boot system that's
a different matter, but if they're both WinXP SP2 they will both have to
have IE6 SP2.

The free SP2 CD is just an upgrade. It sounds like you want a dual boot
system with WinXP SP2 on one drive and SP1 on the other. Legally, you would
need two licenses for this but it might be possible to fool it into working
with one license.
