Install Printer Driver for Local Printing

I have installed a driver for a Sato CL408e label printer on our Win 2000
server. The same driver is installed on a Win2000 pc connecting to the
Win2000 server through terminal services. The printer is set to a TS port
when the user connects. However when I try to print to that printer this is
what happens: It appears as though it will print, then I get a pop-up window
saying there was an error printing document '' '' to TS001. Do you want to
retry or cancel? If I choose retry the error just keeps occurring, if I
choose cancel the print job is canceled. However, when I look in the event
viewer there is an event saying the print job printed, but the print never
actually happens. Could the printer be installed incorrectly on the server?
What port should I choose when installing to the server? Thanks.

The driver that you loaded on the terminal server may not
function properly in a Windows 2000 server configuration.
Does the manufacturer have any other versions that might
work?

Oh, by the way, since printer drivers can cause your
server to crash or become unstable, you should be very
careful when loading third party printer drivers onto your
terminal server. Most, if not all the of the time, it is
preferred that you use a driver that comes on the Windows
2000 disks. You can just edit your ntprint.inf file to
force the terminal server to use that printer driver.

I installed the manufacturer's driver because the driver that comes with
Win2000 doesn't have all the options needed to set the label size etc. So
are you saying that I can install the Win2000 driver for the printer on the
server and then edit the ntprint.inf file to force the terminal server to
use the driver installed on the client pc? If so, what do I put in the
ntprint.inf file? Thanks.

Open up your ntprint.inf file and look at the structure.
The left side is the name of the client's driver and the
right side is for the server's driver.

I don't have any entry for a Sato printer. Is that because I used the
manufacturer's driver? I will try installing the Win2000 driver and see
what happens. What port should I use when I install a driver for a client
printer? Thanks.

Just install it locally, and then delete the printer. You
may need to edit the ntprint.inf file in order to force
your terminal server to use that specific driver though.
