"Install on demand has detected an error"

ie6, Nt4 etc

this comes up on a user's PC when they go to msn.com, but I think its more
to do with activex/scripting not working somehow, as the window below shows
'loading...' without specifying the component.

going to windowsupdate returns a blank screen - when I've set all the
activex and scripting perms to prompt, it prompts for around six of them
beforehand.

Why exactly should this be happening - comcat.dll is on v4.71, and
windowsupdate is set in trusted sites...

any help much appreciated

Solved - we've finally tracked this down to a dodgy install of IE6.
