I just saw RC1 (5055 I think) and the dialog to install new fonts still looks
as it did in Windows 3.1! Is Microsoft going to fix this?

Does anyone but you really care?

It just shows a lack of attention to detail IMHO. The font dialog box has
had the old 3.1 interface through 2000 and XP as well - time to bring it up
to date along with everything else.

Have to agree... it's a UI anomaly... it should adhere to the Vista UI
standard. If there is one... which, apparently, there is not.

I don't 'care' as such, but the last thing I want to see is that awful Steve
jobs character on stage saying "THIS IS VISTA - Windows 3.1 with a skin and
some copied Mac features".

MS touts Vista as being built from the ground up - a new OS. Somes parts look
like new skins to the same old apps. If they put it out with the old font
dialogue box they will cop heaps of flack - and rightly so.

Or perhaps they did build it from the ground up new and discovered in the
process that the old Font dialog box was the best possible solution. After
all, they left the "okay" buttons the same. OMIGOD! How horrible!

Honestly, how hard could it be to change the File, Open dialog box from a
Windows 3.1 style to XP/Vista?

It would seem that a junior programmer could do this in about 10 minutes, so
why hasn't it been done?

If it ain't broke, don't fix it?

Be sure to give MS your feedback on the appearance of the dialog box. Use
the Feedback icon on your desktop.

It may APPEAR to be easily fixable, but that may not be the case.

From what I understand, that Install Font dialog box does alot of magic
behind the scenes and it would take alot of re-kajiggerin code to change it.
I assume MS would not change it at this point for fear of breaking something
else that they might not find before RTM.

Of course, they REALLY should have PLANNED to change it to begin with. You
know, in Windows 95 or at least 98.
