hi, I have just had to rebuild my network due to an
unknown virus. I am using an up to date anti-virus
scanner, but it couldnt find anything on any of my 5
systems. my main question at this point is: - has anyone
any idea if i can recover from a "ohci1394.sys is
corrupted" error when i try to re-install windows XP pro?
It happens very early on in the process, just after where
i'm asked to press f6 to install any 3rd party device
drivers. It start to load the files for installation then
comes up with this error.

On a side note the virus I have had keeps sending me to
sexymagnets.com for all my XP updates, and is accessing
the net 100% of the time, any ideas what it may be?

thanks in advance

bob.

The "ohci1394.sys " is not a Windows XP file. It may be a remnant of
a virus or spyware file. Scan you PC for both virus and spyware files,
perform a "disk cleanup" and "checkdisk", then try a "repair install"
once again.

You may wish to try the Panda ActiveScan Free Online Scanner.
Just click on the "Scan your PC" box.

I have rebuilt the partitions and formatted all harddrives
in the pc, is there anything i can use to scan a hard
drive without an OS installed, I cant even get to
checkdisk as it fails with this error prior to letting me
do anything?

Sure is. You can go here and build a Windows PE disk
http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/, all you need is an XP disk or a Server 2003
disk and it is totally free! It takes less than an hour and almost anyone
can do it. Or you can purchase Hiren's Boot CD (Highly recommended!) Check
it out here: http://62.253.162.19/hiren.thanki/bootcd.html The download is
an ISO that will need to be burned to disk.
