Install I/O Error

When attempting to boot from the Windows XP setup disk, keep getting the above message. Want to be able to reinstall XP on my home computer, but Bios does not support booting from the CD. Have updated Bios from Compaq Presario, but still do not have support from the CD. Had to download the program from Microsoft to boot from a set of six disks to reinstall XP. But the error message keeps coming up. Any help on this would greatly appreciated.
Have a Compaq Presario 7400 series with a 500/97 mhz with AMD processor.
 
Sounds like you cpu is not fast enough to support XP hence the error message

Do yourself a favor and run the update advisor to check for compatibility
issues before trying to load XP. It is included on the XP installation
disk, or you can run it from the Microsoft site.
