I have tried to install the official Vista release on my HTPC based on ASUS
P5B-VM MB, and the install procedure hangs after the final reboot before the
installation procedure will finish the installation. After the reboot, I can
see the MS logo and the progress bar for a while, but after the the screen
gets black and stays so forever. I get see some small blinks on the disk LED,
but nothing happens even if I wait for hours. If I reboot the system I end up
with a message the startup failed. I've tried safe mode, but I get the
message Windows can't finalize the installation in safe mode.
I have also tried to use the automatic startup repair tool by rebooting the
DVD. This one also hangs analyzing my system for hours.....
The funny thing I made my first Vista installation on this machine a week
ago and had the same kind problem. But one day I found the computer up and
running with a full Vista installation! I had XP on that machine as well, and
by mistake I had rebooted the machine and it went into the Vista startup
without my attendance. After that everything worked fine. Now I have replaced
the disk in this machine so I had to make a new installation again and I'm
stuck again with the same problem. I have waited for hours to be sure it's
not just slow progress with no result. This is really strange and I don't
know how solve this problem.
I have searched the net, and found one post in this thread late last year
indicating exactly the same problem, but unfortunately I could not find any
solution.
Any clue????
