You didn't mention the drive controller (possibly SCSI, or ultra DMA, or
ATA100, or raid, or serial ATA), but you may need to boot the Windows 2000
setup disks or CD-Rom and *F6* very early and very important (at setup is
inspecting your system) in the setup to prevent drive controller detection,
and select S to specify additional drivers. Then later you'll be prompted to
insert the manufacturer supplied Windows 2000 driver for your drive's
controller in drive "A"

If you wait and then S to specify additional drivers, then it may be too
late as Windows 2000 Setup at this point may have already assigned the
resources your drive's controller is wanting to use.

Read the documentation for a W2K setup. I'm not trying to blast you, its
just that this is asked often and a compatibility check is required before
any W2K upgrade or install. I've found from past experience that
underclocking the AMD and flashing the bios allows the installation to
complete. Also, since it sounds like u are using an onboard video adapter,
you should verify that a driver is available to support W2K. Otherwise,
you'll just be waisting time.

Again, the compatibility verification is an integral part of a W2K
installation. There are also other issues like whether your motherboard has
a mbr virus checker and whether its disabled during install.

If you have a 32 bit OS running, execute "winnt32 /checkupgradeonly" to get
both ACPI detection information about bios, a hardware compatibility check
and a software compatibility check.
