I am trying to install Fp2000 to my new machine running
XP Home which is fully up todate with service packs etc.
I get a message asking to insert XP Sp1 for Xp Pro, after
some searching I found out that the way to load it to XP
pro is by changing some seettings in ISS (Internet
Information Services) , however this won't work with XP
Home as ISS is not available for XP Home. How do I
install FP2000 to XP Home?

Bob,

The FrontPage 2000 install shouldn't really care which version of XP you're
running. Can you be more specific about when you are getting prompted for
the XP Pro SP1, and the specific text of the message?

When using XP Home, you don't have IIS (as you already noted) so you won't
be able to use features that rely on the FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE).
For a list of these features:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;q281532

Keep in mind that you can still build a site locally on XP Home and publish
to a server running the FPSE, you just won't be able to test locally before
publishing.

I hope that helps.

Thanks Jack,
This is what happens;
The instAller opens and goes through the normal things of
agreements and keying in the product code etc. I
SELECTED customize to make sure the server extensions
were checked, which they were.
Verifying install tasks
Installing MS FP 2000, then after a little while this
appears, WINDOW FILE PROTECTION window and the install
stops, inthe box is, WINDOWS FILES MUST INSTALLED FOR
YOUR INSTALLATION TO PROCEED. INSERT YOUR WINDOWS XP
PROFESSIONAL SERVICE PACK 1 CD NOW. Pressing retry
produces the same result. Pressing cancell I get, IF YOU
CANECEL NOW SET UP MIGHT NOT COMPLTE. ARE YOU SURE?
Pressing yes I get ERROR 1933 WINDOWS INSTALLER CANNOT
UPDATE ONE OR MORE PROTECTED WINDOWS FILES. Pressing Ok
and the Installer winds back the installation and a
message, INSTALLATION ENDED PREMATURELY BECAUSE OF AN
ERROR.
I might add that this machine is a ACER Aspire and came
with XP Home preinstalled, I don't know if they have
locked any files or not.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Well I did that but no joy. I also followed the
instructions for Error 1933 and still no luck. I think I
am going to have look for another web site creation tool,
pity though I really liked FP 2000.
Thanks for ya help any way guys.
