Install additional HD in a Dell Dimension 5150 PC ?

I want to install an additional 80GB HD to make a backup of the hard drive.

I have tried to fit a Seagate 80GB SATA drive but the PC refuses to see it.
I have tried using 2 seperate PSU connections and 2 different SATA cables,
plugged into the SATA2 connector on the PC.
The HD is recognised on another of my PCs so it appears to be OK.

Is there something else to configure on the PC or some other problem ?.

Any clues ?

Cheers

Is the SATA controller recognized in (Windows Device
Manager?) ?

What exactly does "refuses to see it" mean? Does it show up
in the enumeration of devices right after the system POSTs
upon turn-on?

What motherboard make/model and chipset is this? Do you
need to go into an SATA (like for a RAID controller) BIOS
setup menu by pressing a key before windows loads?

Are you sure the SATA feature is even enabled? It might
seems a silly question but it shouldn't be too difficult to
get this already-known-working drive to work again unless
there's some uniqueness to this particular motherboard,

Thanks for your advice. It turned out I had to enable SATA2 in the setup (F2
at bootup), my other PC just recognised a new HD when I plugged it in, you
live and learn.

Thanks again.
