I'm a little bit green on the technical side of computers, so can someone advise me on how to fit then install a new hard drive

Hi,

I doubt you'll get a step by step here but your new drive will probably
come with all you need. There shouldn't be any "fitting" it'll just
mount in the provided holes. After you set the jumper on the drive, a
little black thing that tells the drive it's the master or a
second/slave drive. It's just a very small plug that connects different
pairs of contacts together so the drive knows what it's job will be.

The installation might be as easy as adding a cable from the drive to
your motherboard, plugging in a power cord to the drive, and running a
floppy that should be supplied with the drive.

Read through the instructions and see how far you get. Come back here
with any questions.

1. http://compreviews.about.com/library/weekly/aa-diy-secondaryhd.htm

2. http://www.pcmech.com/show/harddrive/43/

3. http://www.helpwithpcs.com/upgrading/install-hard-drive.htm

No. 3 is good as it has photos, no.1 is also good, although it is for a
secondary drive, really almost the same thing, just watch your
master/slave settings and your cables. take your time.

hope this helps... rob
