attempting to install hp deskjet 1220c software on thinkpad R50E, but install
hangs about 1/3 thru, I think an error message pops up but it's too fast to
read. windows xp home installed its own drivers from the preload package. I
would rather use the hp stuff. hope I've posted enough info.
TIA Jim

Turn-off the printer and disconnect it from the PC.
Download the latest HP software, intall it and then
reconnect your printer and turn it on when prompted to
do so.

hp deskjet 1220c series printer driver (full printing system, WHQL certified)

thanks both of you, I suspect the answer lays between both your answers, to
remove printer and reinstall driver from download. I have downloaded and
tried to run that driver, with no printer connected, but it hangs.
so do Iuninstall and re install?

You may need to download a utility from the HP site that does a "cleanup",
usually on the registry entries for your printer.
If it is not available, you may need to do the cleanup manually.
