Instable system through bios update?

I was told that a bios update of my mobo K7VT2 for using a 160 GD hard disc
drive would make my system very unstable and therefore I shouldn`t do this.
In this circumstances I couldn`t use a quarter of my new bought HD drive
Whats your opinion?

What? BIOS updates do not generally make systems unstable. Back up your
existing BIOS before flashing it with the new one. If there's a problem,
reflash with the old one.
