How can I insert the slide number and total slide count into a master? For
example, if I'm on slide 8 of a 20-slide presentation, the page number would
read "8 of 20". If I was to insert a new slide, it would read "9 of 20", etc.

TBHF,
Just realized that you use PPT 2007. Don't know if the add-in will work.
You could of course click in the slide number placeholder and type the total
number of slides yourself. Which would require an update everytime you add or
remove slides.

Thanks, Luc. I think I'll opt for the manual input until I know for sure that
the add in will work in 2007. You'd think Microsoft would get some of these
basic nits figured out and corrected by now...

I am very disappointed, tho' not surprised, to see that after more than 3
years of threads this problem has not been resolved. I use a rolling PP
presentation on information displays for students; notifying of room
changes, cancellations, lectures etc. This means that the total number of
slides changes often several times daily in termtime. I had used the patch
when running 2003 - and was completely surprised that this feature was not
available in the all singing-all dancing 2007 (just out of interest why did
they change the menus from the recognisable to the 'search for 5 mins to find
a feature'?!). If anyone knows if there are any plans to add such a basic
requirement as auto page total, or knows of a patch that works, i would be
VERY grateful :S
