Hi.

I used to use an Amiga with genlock, 2VCRs and a mixing desk to do our home
movies.

I have now started using Pinnacle Studio (8) to edit captured video, which
is then put onto DVD.

One thing that always looked great was using my Amiga via the genlock to
show the route we took on a static map - as simple as opening DPaint and
drawing a red line on a map in realtime. This I would then overdub with
sound when doing the rest of the movie.

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this now the film is
rendered and burned onto DVD.

I have had a look at some animation programs, but Dogwaffle 2.0 is the only
one that looks likely and I have to buy this to write to .AVI so I don't
know if an animation done here can work with Pinnacle Studio.

Is there a simple and preferably low cost solution to this?

Thanks

Take the static map save it. Make a copy of it and draw your red line on it
in photoshop or paint or whatever you use. Put the 2 clips in a row on the
timeline with the blank map first and the one with the red line on it
second. Then use one of the standard transitions like a gradient wipe in
which ever direction you need it to go. If your red line is all curvy and
part of it is being revealed with the first transition, then just repeat the
process using the gradient transition in a different direction and keep
doing that until the whole path is revealed sequentially. Then you can use
the Razor tool to splice the pieces together so that it looks seemlessly
annimated.

If you happen to have adobe photoshop and after effects with the trapcode 3D
stroke plug in it's pretty easy with the path tool.

Studio 8 is not a video effects type of software but you can do some simple
things with it.

Adobe is not a "cheap" solution if you don't already have those 2 programs
but you if you are going heavy duty into video you will want those 2
eventually.

If you need more help with it feel free to email me.

Wow!

Thanks - I just knew there was an obvious way around it staring me in the
face!

I've been stuck on this for over a week now, so I can get on with editing at
last.

Thanks again.
